Please join with the IWSL Board of Directors in observing Good Sportsmanship Sunday at all games on October 23, 2016 and October 30, 2016.
Parents, your behavior at a game sets the tone. If you emphasize the “end product” (who won) instead of focus on the “process” (skill improvement, fun, increase in confidence), the kids do not view mistakes as opportunities to learn but as occasions of failure.
What starts out as shouts at referees and opponent players as well as criticisms of our own kid’s teammates can end up in bloodshed and a day in court. “Sports Rage” is on the rise in soccer. We need to be aware of it. We need to stop it.
Help your child see the game as a game, with an opportunity to learn skills, compete, increase confidence, and have fun. We believe that by parents and other spectators refraining from saying or shouting any comments other than encouraging cheers when either team does well, every child will have fun, relax, show good sportsmanship and learn.
Accentuate the positive. No complaining about officials, blaming others, making excuses. Be positive and show a calm demeanor. Be as quiet as you can possibly be.
The other Board Members and I will visit as many games as possible and enjoy the quiet with you.

REMEMBER – YOUR KIDS ARE WATCHING YOU AND LEARNING
